We've all had some moment when we realize that life as a mom is just completely different. If not for our mom status, we might actually look crazy licking another person's hand or picking their nose. Here are the top 10 defining mom moments from real moms who know what motherhood's really about. (Leave a comment with one of your defining moments and you'll be eligible to win a $500 shopping spree from Zappos!)

10. When you rock your grocery cart even when the baby isn't in it.

9. When you honestly believe everyone else’s kid is terrible while yours is an angel.

8. When what used to be fun and carefree suddenly becomes life-threatening.

7. When your spit becomes an acceptable cleaning supply.

6. When you realize everything you eat or drink is room temperature.

5. When your beauty routine consists of brushing your teeth, going to the bathroom, and putting your hair in a ponytail.

4. When you realize that it’s possible to be a functioning human being on 3 hours of sleep a night.

3. When drool is adorable.

2. When the words “Because I said so” become a very legitimate reason.

And now, for the #1 most defining mom moment...

1. When it’s nothing for you to pop out a breast in public… without getting beads in return.

My defining moment as a mom was when my son's drawing of a hamster was displayed in the window at the art studio.
When my 18 year old son called me one day a year after his alcoholic father and I divorced and he went to live with him, angry at me becuce he felt the divorce was all my fault. He said to me, "Mom, I'm sorry, there is no living with this man, you were right!"

Now that my kids are 26 and 21, I look back at some of the funny moments, like my daughter at 6 years old calling her brother a as- h---- and my mouth dropped open and I said WHAT DID YOU SAY? and she quickly said "I mean castle, I mean hassle"
My husband were on a long overdue date night & we were 20 minutes into the drive to the restaurant when I realized we'd been playing the Wiggles CD the whole time & hadn't even noticed.
I think the true defining moment was when I received a beautiful card from my daughter who was in college. In essence, it said, "Thank you for being a wonderful Mom. I thought your rules were mean or ridiculous and I was sure you didn't want me to have a real life or be independent. Now I want to thank for enforcing your rules and for protecting me from what you knew could be harmful. I now understand why you made your decisions."
Defining moment: Suddenly not minding the kids in restaurants anymore...and knowing exactly which couples don't have kids by the looks on their faces when one screeches in delight.
When you suddenly realize that you would trade places with your child in an instant to save them from pain, even if it meant exchanging your life for theirs...you would do it in a heartbeat, gladly, with no hesitation or second thoughts.
When you realize the artwork you have taped to the refrigerator has more value to you than anything in an art gallery.
As a mother of two special needs children, we are involved in all sorts of activities with other families with special needs kids. My youngest child Nicholas had passed away a couple months earlier, and we were at an activity with other families with special needs kids. One of the kids came up to my husband and I and said "hi, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas". The pther parents around us became suddenly very quiet. I started crying, but smiling at the same time. Yep, I am stil the mother of Nicholas, Mrs. Nicholas.
When you need to look in your 3 year old daughter's closet to find all of your missing heels!
